Default Elite tomes what are they really good for?

Probably silly question, but what are the elite tomes for?
How are they used? I looked in wiki it says nothing about what they are good for just what they are.

Elite tomes are great because you can get elite skills without working hard for it. AKA get on buy an elite skill from a balthazar priest, boom you have an elite skill, regardless of where its found

Let's say you have a ranger, for example, who has finished the game, capping a lot of skills along the way. Now you create a new ranger. You can use the Elite tomes you give your new lvl 2 ranger Barrage, say, a skill he normally wouldn't be able to get until much later in the game.

You can also use both regular and Elite tomes to get skills from the other campaigns than the one you've started in before you are able to travel to those areas.

Elite tomes are great for making money.

Type: "WTS Elite Monk Tome 10k" in LA for a few minutes and soon you have the cash needed to buy 10 signet of captures.

True that, but they are also great time savers if you want to use them instead of selling them. Say you have a killer idea for a mesmer build, but it requires the elite skill Fevered Dreams... Fevered Dreams is found on a boss with a spawn point at the back of the next to the last mission in Prophecies. To make it even more difficult that boss shares a spawn point with other bosses so he may or may not be present after you have done more than 1/2 the mission. Instead of spending that hour checking to see if the boss has bothered to show or not you can use an Elite tome and have the skill ready to go without ever setting foot on the Fire Islands. It's handy. And depending on the elite involved you might very well be able to earn the money required to buy the tome in the amount of time you would spend capping the skill. It's just another option, another way of acquiring a skill for a PvE character.

Unless you like to PVP (because you can use the Balthazar Faction from PVP to unlock elite skills on your account) Elite Tomes are really only useful for players who have multiple characters.

The idea is that if another character on your account has capped an elite (or you have used your Balth. Faction to unlock the elite skill at the Balth. rewards guy), then any other character on your account can then use the elite tome to learn that skill.

For example, in Ayelet Feldspar's example, you either have to use Balthazar Faction to unlock Fevered Dreams first, or another character on your account must have already capped it.

These things would be very useful for me, for example, because I have capped every elite in the game on one character on one of my accounts for the Skill Hunter title. Now any character I create (or already have) can learn any elite in the game through the use of an elite skill tome. This can be useful if you want to try a new build, or if you are creating a new character (as already mentioned.)

So are they just for one use or multiple?
Because realistically why would you pay 10k if it is a skill you can just cap for 1k plus a skill point.

One use per Tome. Because it save you time, as said earlier, if you haven't reach that part of the game yet to cap it, or some of the more time consuming cap.

I think they're pretty useful because, as was said before, sometimes you don't want to wait until later in the game to get one. For example, I just started an assassin, and I wanted to get Moebius Strike, but I didn't want to have to get 10k Kurzick faction, so I spent about an hour on Zaishen Challenge and worked up my faction. It's a lot easier than going through the storyline sometimes.

I sell them mainly. Why buy something 10x the value of it when you can go cap it and have something to do lol. Only time I really use them is if I find it.

In most cases you are correct.

Here is an example I can give you to hopefully help explain 1 good use. I created a Rit to do nothing but farm with. I of course need VwK. I leveled the Rit up through the starter island then went to the main land and gained level 20 quickly. I am now ready to farm.

Oh wait I still need VwK.

Look it up on Wiki and find it can be capped in Mourning Veil Falls or Rhea's Crater. This is pretty far into the game and I really don't want to waste all of that time getting to either one of these places.

However my ranger has been to both , so I change my secondary to Rit, grab a cap sig and in less then 15 minutes I have capped VwK on my Ranger. I then buy a Elite Rit Tome for 8k (Yes I was very lucky on that) and my Rit now has VwK as well.

So, to make a short story long I have now made over 250k on my 8k investment of an elite tome.

Hope that helps,

Krat

And you played for how long?

Say your a new 55, you can use this tome to get SoJ, instead of a 4k droks run, a 4k granite run, then an hour run to the boss...
Or you can spend many hours completing the game..
But my monk is only used for 55 and dusnt even have beacons perch

Convenience imo

I only use it for elites late in the game if I'm not that far.

When I started my monk, I did not use an {E} tome for ZB, Glimmer, LoD.
